After Arizona passing the new immigration law SB 1070, I believe it will give racist extra power to threaten and commit hate crimes against Mexicans in Arizona. 

This may be the first hate crime in Arizona since the new law was passed. Which is going to lead to more incidents like the one that I want to report today? Keep in mind, this will lead to more hate crimes and many will go unreported because people here illegally will not call the authorities to report them. I have lived here all my life and have never been a target of hate crime. I am now considering removing the logos on my truck for this reason. This law is affecting my freedom of speech indirectly. I’m scared for my safety because of my nationality and afraid to promote my favorite music now. 

I was driving down I-10 heading to work as I passed a small gold 2 door sedan in the passing lane, and a few seconds later a white guy passes me, flipping me off. I then rolled down my window and asked “what was that for?’ The guy said “go back home to Mexico”, threatened me with his fist and waived his fist and said pull over. I then slowed down and puzzled and shaken up about the incident couldn’t figure out why he threatened me. It was then that I realized it was because I promote TexMex Music and have a logo on my truck displaying the word Mex. Funny because early that morning some family was joking about putting bumper stickers that say “I’m Mexican Pull Me Over”. I then said jokingly, I don’t need that, I have the word Mex in TexMexFM.com in huge letters on my truck and that should be reason enough for police to pull me over with this new law. 

Little did I know it would give reason to bigots, and seen as a red flag for racist… 

I’m a US Citizen and I feel violated, frustrated, shaken, insulted, and angry that this behavior is going on today, and this new Arizona law is only going to help increase incidents like this. This new law is going to give racist more power because they know that Mexicans will be too scared to report the crimes. Where is my justice, I’m a 4th generation Mexican American I want justice. I’ve had TexMexFM.com decaled on the side of my truck for 5 years now and have driven from Tucson to Las Vegas to Texas several times, never have I had an incident like this before. 

I feel for illegal people because I know that if I was not a US Citizen I would not have reported the incident to the authorities. I called Arizona DPS, and they couldn’t do anything because I didn’t have a license plate. In hindsight I wish I would have called the authorities at that moment and followed him to read his plates over the phone.  I did take several pictures and video of the car but unfortunately they came out blurry. I’m going to try and blow the pictures up and hopefully I will be able to get the license and file a police report and get some justice for the threats and say loud and proud “This Is For My Raza!” 

I want to see this guy prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and to send a message to the entire racist in Arizona, that they will be caught if committing hate crimes. I want the racist to think twice before harassing, threatening, or committing violence on a Mexican person, because we are not all here illegally. I want them to know hating on someone for being Mexican is wrong and this new law is not a free pass to threaten, hurt, or harass, any person of Mexican decent.
